For the fourth year, the West Kentucky Special Education Cooperative will offer this 3 day training for teachers of struggling readers in grades 4 through 12. The purpose of this training is to educate teachers in the latest reading research. We will address group and individual reading assessment, data analysis, individual student planning, research based strategies, progress monitoring and student motivation.
In response to the RTI initiative, many schools are beginning to develop small group "reading labs" to address the weaknesses of intensive needs (Tier 3) readers. This training will give teachers the foundational knowledge necessary to begin implementation of a class with the primary focus of "teaching reading" to older students. Follow up trainings will be offered in support of the "reading lab" staff.
